DANCING WITH HORSES WORKSHOP

PART 1

Finding Rapport Exercise
Before you begin to dance with a horse it is essential to understand the common language horses and humans share through body language. The horse is acutely aware of our every physical motion, and horses have an uncanny way of understanding our thoughts and feelings. It's important to have a light and playful attitude while developing your relationship with the horse yet at the same time, you need to establish clear spatial boundaries.

In this preliminary exercise you are not asking anything of the horse. You are merely exploring and finding a place of resonance.

PART 2

Developing The Story Of Your Dance
Once you are in rapport with the horse you will explore the story that binds you together. For example, you could be a circus performer who, after an arduous search, has been reunited with your horse.

PART 3

Finding Your Dance
In this exercise you will ask the horse to move. You will be taught how to send the horse away and have the horse return to you. Once you are able to do this comfortably you will begin to find your dance with the horse.

PART 4

Performing Your Dance
In this final piece you will have the opportunity to perform your dance. You are encouraged to dress in character and to decorate the horse appropriately. You will have live music to accompany you and if you wish, you will be videotaped.

This workshop is performed in a group but can also be done privately.
