Sara calls me the messenger. She shows children how to touch me gently on my side,
' feel his breathing' she says. 'Now ask him for the message'.
I like this game. I'm really not that serious, I can be a lot of fun. I love attention and will do anything to get it. I'll slam the gate repetitively with my hoof or pick up things laying around with my teeth.I usually get a good laugh when I do this. For my age, twenty six this year, I'm athletic and flexible. I love to explore and I love hanging out with my herd mates.
Sometimes people are afraid of me, usually because they don't understand horses or because they've had a bad experience with a horse, getting thrown, kicked or bitten. Sara tells them that horses have bad experiences with humans too, and it makes it hard for us to trust them again.
After spending a few minutes with me they realize that I'm not going to hurt them, when they relax that's when we can start getting to know each other. I'm the one who is the scaredy cat. I'm the prey animal!

I adore my name, Ruby. I am a Ruby gemstone, the color of my beautiful coat and my big almond eyes will put you in a trance! I've come a long way.
When I first came to live with Sara and the herd five years ago I was terrified of everything.
I did not trust humans, they showed me no reason too.
I've learnt how to be ridden and I've come to enjoy this very much.
Sara takes me into the mountains, we breathe in all the amazing energy from the mountains and ocean.
Sara made me a beautiful necklace out of hay string. This is my reins, I feel like a princess when I'm wearing it, it has crystals sewn into it, my head is free and I can express myself with dignity.
There is a special boy that I work with every week, he is blind and he sings songs the whole time we ride together.
He told his dad that I'm a good ride. That makes me feel very proud, like I said I've come a long way, I prefer to not think about the past, stay in the present, it's the only place to be!
