Opportunity to stay at Silver Horse Retreat
Information about joining Silver Horse Retreat community as an intern or long term resident.
This opportunity of living and learning at Silver Horse Retreat is currently available. This is for one person who has no pets. If you have a dog, it could only be possible if your dog gets along with other dogs and cats, and is well behaved. If you have a horse it’s possible it could work out if its a good match.
To be able to fit in and thrive in the environment at Silver Horse Retreat there are certain requirements to meet. This position is available for male or female.
Please read the following to see if this is applicable to you.
Physically fit and healthy.
Alcohol and drug free.
Has a good attitude about helping out with chores that need to be done onsite.
Is clean and tidy.
Is able to live in a 25 feet long trailer, ( watch this video to see trailer ) who doesn’t have a lot of stuff and is OK with using a compost outhouse.
Trailer has a hot shower, kitchen, larger refrigerator, bedroom, sitting room, wifi and plenty of closet space.
Can adapt to living off grid. (Trailer has a solar generator.)
Is self reliant and has initiative.
Understands this is an opportunity to retreat and be in nature. (Not a party place or somewhere to have continual guests staying over.)
This position is best suited to someone in need of:
self reflection
time out to figure out next chapter in life
and/or is
an artist
a writer
a healer
a musician
a creative person
curious about off grid living and horses
There are three categories, please read carefully:
A. You really would love to experience living off grid. You have some or no knowledge of horses, horse care and horse handling but really want to learn in a way which is relaxed, safe and respectful of horses. You are interested in Horse Constellations and living with a herd of horses which offer therapy. You understand that the horses are not ridden and you don’t care about that, as you want to get to know them without being on top of them.
You are willing to help out with what needs to be done at the retreat. This amounts to half a day or less, six days a week; on average three to four hours a day. You understand Sara is willing to teach you all about horses and will include you in anything event that is taking place on the retreat. This includes a 5-day Horse Constellation training.
You have a good attitude. This means you don’t whine or complain about the weather, insects or anything trivial.
If you are from another country, or if you don’t have a car, no problem. Sara will pick you up from San Diego airport and take you back to the airport when you leave.
This position is available for one month, three months or longer. At the end of each month there is an evaluation to determine if it is in everyone’s best interest for you to continue to be at SHR.
One month = $1’000
Two to three months = $750 per month
Six months or more = $650 per month
B. You have skills in the following:
Construction, horse and dog care. You are interested in the healing arts and are on a journey of self-growth, transformation and self development. You are willing to help out with projects at the retreat and anything else that Sara needs done. You are willing to help out 3-4 hours a day, six days a week. This is flexible. Sara will include you in any events which happen at the retreat while you are at SHR.
There is no fee to pay but you will need to pay for your own propane and food.
This opportunity is for one month or more. There will be a weekly evaluation as to access if it is beneficial to all parties for you to be at SHR.
C. You have skills in the following and have a truck:
Construction, handyman/repairs, have experience with off grid living, want to be part of a community which revers animals and does not kill any of them, such as snakes, mice, ants etc. You need alone time alone and really want to be in a tranquil beautiful, remote environment. You are willing to help out with projects that need doing, you are good at problem solving and are easy to get along with. You are willing to help out approximately five hours a day, five days a week. You are open to using your truck for errands, obviously Sara will cover gas.
There is no fee and Sara will provide all of your organic vegan meals and utilities.
This opportunity is for one month or more. There will be a weekly evaluation as to access if it is beneficial to all parties for you to continue to be at SHR.

Benefits of being at Silver Horse Retreat
For the right person who wants to learn about horses from a gentle and respectful place, Sara is willing to share her knowledge of twenty three years of caring, working and living with horses.
Being on the Silver Horse Retreat land is special. The land is revered and respected and in turn the land gives back by providing a beautiful, serene place to live.
Wifi is currently available but it is not reliable. Sara uses hotspot for her work so please bear this in mind as you may need to do your own hotspot if you depend on the internet for livelihood. Verizon and ATT&T work well in this area.
Ranchita is in the mountains and has diverse seasonable weather. It is near the desert Borrego Springs which has incredible places to explore and hike.
It is also near Julian a mountain town which too has incredible hikes and trails.
